Telesens Integrates Interconnect Settlement System (T-IC) for Kyivstar

Client overview Kyivstar is one of the largest telecom operators in Ukraine, with almost 24 million customers and total revenue exceeding 7.9 billion UAH in 2023. With a growing subscriber base and increasing traffic, Kyivstar required a more efficient and scalable solution for handling interconnect settlements with other operators.

Client feedback “Telesens provided us with a modern, flexible solution capable of processing huge volumes of data. The T-IC system allows us to manage settlements more effectively and has significantly reduced the number of disputes. We’re very satisfied with the results.” – Igor Litovchenko, President of Kyivstar.

Business needs ● A customisable and scalable interconnect billing system to handle vast volumes of CDRs (Call Data Records) monthly. ● A way to reduce operating costs and improve operational efficiency. ● A system that could automate settlements and integrate smoothly with multiple operators. ● The ability to generate detailed reports, reconcile data, and manage different types of traffic with high precision.

Telesens solution We developed and implemented the T-IC (Telesens Interconnect Settlement) system for Kyivstar, offering a flexible and automated platform that: Processes over 1.3 billion CDRs per month and updates balances within 15 minutes. Supports mutual settlements between operators for various types of traffic, including voice, data, and messaging. It allows Kyivstar to manage different settlement plans efficiently. Maintains network topology. The system tracks Kyivstar’s network connections with other operators, including switches, trunk groups, and Points of Interconnect (POIs). Has flexible pricing models. Price lists can be customised for different operators and traffic types, ensuring accurate billing and settlements. Provides advanced reporting. The system delivers a set of informational, analytical, and statistical reports, allowing for easy monitoring of operator activities and settlements. 01_Agreement The Tinterconnect (T-IC) system supports the possibility of mutual settlements between operators for different types of traffic and their allocation to different settlement plans to form separate sets of documentation for closing periods. 02_PriceModel To unify mutual settlements with several operators, the functionality of price lists is used simultaneously. Price lists can be of various types depending on the requirements of the customer's business. 03_ChargeBandMatrix Fares in price lists can be determined by destinations or grouped by special fare groups maintained in fare group matrices. 04_Destination To work with directions, the system provides a hierarchical structure with an arbitrary level of nesting, called a direction tree. Tree nodes can be of different types (Country Group, Country, City, etc.) and either have their prefix (access code) or not. 05_Network The system also maintains the topology of the network of the operator-owner of the system and its connections with other operators (nodes - switches, trunk groups, POIs). 06_POIDiagram The network of interconnection points of the operator-owner of the system with other operators can be visualized using special diagrams and other similar objects of the system. 07_Reports The system offers a set of extra informational, analytical, and statistical reports that can be obtained from the tree of reports for a certain period or for specified groups of operators. 08_Scheduler Processes that occur in the system at a specified frequency are automated using a particular Scheduler module. The module sets the schedule for launching operations and their frequency, analyses the execution, and, if necessary, sends notifications to responsible persons about problems that arise or the successful completion of processes. 09_SchedProcDiagram Scheduler processes consist of separate nodes - operations that can be launched both sequentially and in parallel, depending on the need and capacity of the customer's equipment. The visualization of the process structure and its execution can also be visualized using diagrams. 10_Admin The system allows you to configure user rights to access objects using special groups and roles flexibly.

How T-IC works The implementation process followed several key steps: Initiation and planning We conducted a discovery phase, auditing Kyivstar’s current systems. It allowed us to estimate the project’s scope, including system architecture and feature requirements. System implementation We installed the core base solution, configured tariff conditions, and loaded initial data from 1-2 months. Then our team set up the billing features and reconciled calculated data with partner records. Customisation Our experts tailored the system to meet Kyivstar’s specific needs, including additional improvements for managing different operator contracts and traffic types. Maintenance and support Telesens also provided user and admin training on the T-IC system. We delivered the system for commercial operation and managed change requests (CRs). Step 1 Initiation and planning ● discovery and audit of the current state ● estimation Step 2 Contract singing Step 3 Customization ● system improvements to meet individual client's needs Step 4 System implementation ● installation of the base solution ● loading and entering data of the client base and tariffication conditions ● installation of improvements ● data setting ● loading of initial data (data of 1-2 months) ● setting billing features ● reconciliation of calculated data with partner data Step 5 Maintenance and support ● T-IC courses for users and admins ● system delivery into commercial operation ● correction of the remarks revealed during the delivery ● CRs management

Key features of T-IC Mutual settlements The system supports settlements for various types of traffic, ensuring flexibility in managing operator agreements. Network management The solution maintains the full network topology and relationships between Kyivstar and other operators. Custom pricing models Price lists are easily customisable based on the operator and traffic type. Comprehensive reports T-IC offers analytical and statistical reports to ensure full transparency in operations. Automated processes The Scheduler module automates system processes, such as executing scheduled operations and sending notifications if issues arise.

System impact 1.3 billion CDRs processed monthly The system easily handles massive volumes of data with a quick 15-minute balance update cycle. Reduced disputes Kyivstar significantly reduced the number of disputes during settlements with other operators due to the system’s accuracy and transparency. Scalable and flexible The T-IC system scales as Kyivstar’s network grows, ensuring that they can handle increasing traffic and manage multiple interconnect agreements efficiently.
