Business needs Vodafone Ukraine needed to modernize its Ring Back Tone (RBT) service to: Lower operational costs by reducing overheads in the implementation and deployment processes Transition to a new technology base using IP protocols, cloud deployment, and virtual networking Introduce new monetization features to enhance the RBT service’s revenue potential
What is RBT and how it works RBT (Ring Back Tone) is a Value-Added Service (VAS) that replaces the standard connection signal heard by callers with audio content, such as music, songs or messages. Instead of hearing a typical dial tone while waiting for the call to be answered, the caller hears a melody or personalized audio selected by the subscriber. The T-RBT solution not only provides a customizable experience for subscribers but also allows carriers like Vodafone to integrate additional services and content, opening up new business models and partnership opportunities.
RBT flow The subscriber activates the RBT service through a self-service portal, mobile app, or web interface. When a call is made, instead of a regular ring, the T-RBT system retrieves the chosen audio content. The system delivers the audio to the caller while processing the connection. The T-RBT system manages the entire transaction seamlessly, logging activity and allowing updates based on preferences. This creates a personalized user experience and also opens up opportunities for revenue generation through premium content offerings.
Challenges Vodafone’s existing RBT system faced several limitations. Scalability issues The legacy system couldn’t handle the growing subscriber base efficiently, causing bottlenecks. Manual processes The outdated infrastructure required manual management, which was inefficient and costly. Revenue limitation The system lacked features that could help Vodafone generate additional revenue through content monetization. Complex upgrading Moving to a cloud-based architecture and modern technology like IP protocols required a complete overhaul of the system.
